This TV was just recently released as of the time of this review, and it’s one of the best TVs under $500 you can find on the market. I did a LOT of research looking for what I wanted in a TV. I’ve been wanting a nice flatscreen for a while now. I’ve been holding out as and quality has been improving while prices have been dropping. I finally settled on this Panasonic.

I wanted a TV for primarily movies (Hi Def and standard or upconverted Def) and video games (Hi Def and standard def). I do not have a cable subscription and am not interested in HD cable services. That being said, I also wanted a TV that would double as a humongous PC monitor. I’m pleased to say this TV meets and exceeds my needs so far. It’s a big upgrade from the 20 inch tube TV I was using before the VIERA.

The LCD TV is nice looking and has a variety of cable inputs. Both the remote and menu systems are top-notch and useful. This TV puts out true 720p resolution and has 4:3 ratio (standard, full-frame) and zoom scaling as well. For TVs 32 inches and under, 1080p (while nice) is not necessary, as you’d be hard pressed to notice a dramatic difference with your HDMI or component sources. The picture is super sharp, and the image control available with this TV is pretty impressive. You can really play with the picture and color. I was laughing at the ability to essentially reproduce that 60’s Technicolor supersaturation if you want. It really brings films to life. You can make up to 4 preset color choices, too- One for films, one for sports or live action TV, one for video games, one for kid’s cartoons, etc, etc.

There is 1 stuck pixel on the TV. This is to be expected, and is not noticeable unless you’re looking for stuck or dead pixels from about 18 inches away. I cannot see the pixel when watching, though, only when I’m up close on the screen. This is not an issue at all. You cannot pick out 1 dead pixel on a TV of this resolution. 1 out of over 1 million pixels, the rest are flawless.

I’ve just gotten this, and haven’t fully tested all the bells and whistles, like the SD card port or the VIERA Link HDMI software (waiting for 1080p media player, coming in the mail). PC to TV was effortless and looked great. Even my old PS2 looked pretty good, albeit jaggy. I think that’s more the game than the TV, though.

I almost went and got a $300 or $375 no-name tv at Walmart or Target, but I’m glad I paid a bit more for a higher-quality product. This Panasonic is really, really, well built, and is a near-perfect 32 inch TV. I’m more than happy with my purchase. As I test it out more, I plan to update this review, but so far, I’m loving it! This Panasonic is a great TV at an affordable price point, and 32 inches is perfect for most small to medium sized rooms.

Also, if you have any specific questions, post ‘em and I’ll do my best to answer.

**UPDATE**

I’ve had the TV for a while now and still love it. I got an upconverting Sony DVD player (model DVPNS710HB ) that puts out 480p, 720p, and 1080i upconverts of standard DVDs. I bought a $3 HDMI cable from buy.com (skip the $100 monster cables, trust me) and the picture is fantastic. The trick is that since the TV displays 720p, by switching the DVD player to send the data in 720p, you get a native resolution that lets the image look its best on the TV. While the TV has a scaler built in, having the DVD player scan and scale and then transmit via HDMI produces a signifigantly clearer picture. Some of the DVDs I have that were shot on digital video look very, very close to HD programming. My digitally remastered James Bond DVDs also look signifigantly better than through a component DVD player. I was impressed.

As for the other features- the SD card reader is too slow for my tastes. It takes a few seconds to load each picture. Of course, I have a VGA connector hooked up, so its much more convenient to load the pictures to my PC and view them thru windows. HQ images look AMAZING on this TV, though. I had always shot digital pictures at high resolutions, but couldn’t really see them as they were meant to be seen, only having a 15 inch LCD. With the new TV as my monitor, my pictures now look 100 times better.

Another cool feature- through Viera Link, the HDMI Sony DVD player works with the Panasonic remote- no programing needed. I simply went into the Viera Link menu and selected the HDMI DVD player, now my DVD player will start and stop when I power on the TV and I can control it all from my TV remote. Very cool.

I’ll post some more updates if I have anything else to say or if anyone has any questions.

The Panasonic Viera C12 series, 32 inch tv is my first lcd tv. I have had a flat screen crt tv from sharp for about 4-5 years. the Sharp tv was great for what it was and have only good things to say about it, but it was getting old, occupied too much space and wanted a slick LCD. My girlfriend has an 37 inch LCD from Samsung and i have to say i was never too impressed with it so i wanted a different brand. I got the Panasonic for under $500 which was absolutely great and i am extremely satisfied. Firstly i have to say that the picture quality is better than the Samsumg and it has great features. I have only basic cable but i do get some hd channels which look fantastic. Also i love the fact that you can easily turn the tv screen to a giant computer screen by hooking one cable up to your computer. I tend to watch some european soccer online and being able to see it on the tv screen was one thing i was looking for in a LCD. THe TV also has this cool feature where you can put in a digital camera memory stick and it will show all the pics on the tv. While this is not a reason in itself to buy it, it is a nice add-on when you want to check out how pictures look without having to download them on the computer first. Also i find the menu of the tv quite easy, simple and very user friendly.

I am very happy with the purchase from a quality & price perspective and would recommend this .

I picked up this TV yesterday for $388. I worked for a high end commercial video manufacturer for 20 years as their training director so I have been dealing with HDTV since the mid 90s. The picture and the features on this Panasonic TV are excellent and remarkable for the low cost. Picture quality is good, and I would recommend this unit for anyone looking for a 32 inch screen ……

This is a great laptop. I read reviews and info about this for more than a month before laying down the cash for it. I’ve been extremely happy with it. It’s thin and sexy. It’s light (especially for a 15 inch laptop). It’s extremely cool. The performance is good but not amazing. I mostly work with music editing and notation software and this laptop has handled all them fine. I play games online with it and I have yet to find a game that it can’t handle (it should be noted I only play games from the browser and have no idea how a real computer game would do, but I know since this doesn’t have a graphics card it probably wouldn’t do well with 3d graphics, but I dont really know.) For everyday computing this computer has all the power you need. The 15 inch model is great too. The keyboard is full sized (which was somewhat of an adjustment after using cramped keyboards for so long) and the number pad is extremely helpful (at least to me).

The battery life is why you buy this computer. All day computing is no lie. I used to own a Dell and a Toshiba which got about 3 hours battery life at best, and then up to 10 minutes as they got old. It’s been hard to break the habit of packing my power adapter when I leave but I’ve never needed it. I can go to school all day, take my computer to class, work in the library or cafeteria and never need to worry about running out of juice. If I crank it up to “High Performance” I can get a solid 5 to 6 hours of battery, on “Power Saver” I get an easy 8 and a half and if I turn off the WiFi I can get a little more then 10 hours. I’ve never, never, never, run it down completely during normal use.

Overall a great computer at a great price. Everything you need with an unbelievable battery life. Free yourself from the wall socket and buy this computer!

Unless you play very demanding 3D games, the Acer AS5810(15.6″), AS4810(14.4″) or AS3810 (13.7″) is the one for everyone.

- Thin and light, 5.4 to 3.5 lb, < 1″, nothing else I know of is like this.

- Cool, very thoughtfully designed to avoid heat buildup. Metal top, lots of spaces between keys. Bottom is never warm, palm rest area is absolutely cold, incredible.

- Quiet, as it is so cool, the fan never speeds up to make noticeable noise.

- LED backlight, should last forever and save battery.

- 8-hour battery life, never need to carry the AC adapter for the day. Never worry about empty battery, just concentrate on your work.

- Metal lid, looks VERY VERY good. This thing looks better and slimmer than MacAir, no kidding.

- Number keys included.

- Only $[...], even cheaper than other thick, heavy, hot and noisy craps.

My son, senior high, carries it in his backpack together with many thick books. This is not a demanding 3D gaming machine, exactly a good thing for a student. If you want to save $[...], then get the Dell i1545, just heavier, thicker and shorter battery life, but a real dual core CPU, unbelievable deal.

The only stupid thing: I’ve seen crap ware installed in new PCs before, but Acer did it to the extreme on this laptop, like 100 trial games etc.

It took me a whole day to uninstall them. Because no Vista CD included, so I could not just do a clean installation. Then I used Ghost to make a full back up for the partition 2, about 5 GB. No need to back up the partition 1, about 10 GB, it is the factory restore area and you can use Acer’s utility to burn them to DVD disks. Next time when a restoration is need, I can just restore the ghost and no need to uninstall the numerous crap ware again.

I have used several laptops (work and personal), including the hyped ThinkPad T61, T500, T400.

But the Acer Timline series laptops have really surprised me in terms of build quality, price, form factor, and battery life.

If these are the things you care most, the Timeline is for you!

My T400 never got passed 4hrs at the lowest CPU setting and LCD brightness. The Timeline consistently gives me over 5hrs (not the 8hrs+ as they claimed though) using Windows XP.

Windows XP installation (over the default Vista Premium) was a straightforward task, as Acer website provides XP drivers so you don’t have to search anywhere. I tried both the 15.6″ and the 14″ version and personally I’d like the 14″ for its screen size, though both share the same 1″ thin dimension and similar battery life. The 15.6″ keyboard comes with a numeric keypad.

For those people who complained about CPU spiked at 100% at random or eject button locked up the laptop, I had the same problems. After I updated it with the latest Intel graphics driver and Acer BIOS, all the problems went away!

I am usually picky about what I use, but I have to give Acer a thumb up for such a great job. After all, it only costs $549!

Can’t say the same for Lenovo ThinkPad which costs more, thicker (>1.2″), and only average battery life.

What’s the point of having wireless internet if you must plug in your power regularly? With the Timeline, I can truly roam most of my day without fear of running out of power.

My only complain about the 14″ version: if the mouse pad could move to the left about 1″, that would be perfect. As I type, my right palm occasionally touches the mouse pad that causes the mouse cursor to move. If Acer did this on the 15.6″ version, why not on the 14″?

I’ll start with a short review since I just got the printer and have only run 5 prints through it. I will update in a week or so with more information.

Setup and installation was easy. I have it on my network for my Windows machines and it is connected directly to my Mac Pro. The install documentation said to get the latest driver for Leopard off of their site, which I did and installed with no problem. The latest Windows driver was on the installation CD.

The reason I called this review “State of the Art” is Epson developed Radiance, the new color-matching technology built into the R1900. This is the first printer with it, even the current Epson Pro printers don’t have it. Printerville.net has an article about it.

The few pictures I have printed are beautiful and they printed very fast.

I printed 3 on Epson’s Ultra Premium luster 8.5 x 11 paper using Photoshop CS2. I tried different settings for each print of the same standard color matching target. All three printed very nice and as expected, a little different. Using “Photoshop Determines Colors”, “Printer Determines Colors” and “No Color Management”, with appropriate settings on the printer driver. So it will be up to you to decide which settings you want to use.

Next, as a test I printed a photo, of my daughter, on plain HP Bright White paper. WOW, is all I can say. Plain paper and it looked great.

For my last test I picked a random paper size, 12″ x 12″, that I cut from a 13″ x 19″ sheet of matte paper. I changed the paper size in the driver and printed. No problem, it printed just fine and also was beautiful.

I plan on getting a roll of paper too. I’ve wanted to print some banners, something I couldn’t do with my current Canon I9900.

So far it is everything I expected it to be. However, I do plan on keeping the I9900 because sometimes I know I will want a dye (not pigment) print (and I still have Canon ink and paper left).

I will post more soon.

Update 3-10-08:

I have been playing with the settings on the driver to see which I like best. It is a good/bad thing that there are so many settings to play with. I figure I will eventually figure out which I like best. There are subtle differences in color, skin tones and gray scales on the gray scales. If you are interested in the test targets, you can download the printer test images I used from http://www.drycreekphoto.com/tools/index.html

I will start printing some of my real pictures to compare with the I9900 versions. So I will post another update in a week or two.

I tried a roll in the printer. It was surprising easy to set up and use. You put the holders on the roll, mount it on the back of the printer, then feed the paper into the printer in the slot on the back. The printer recognizes you are doing it, then grabs the paper to feed in to the proper starring point.

If you print multiple images, the printer spaces them 1″ apart. Unfortunately, Epson still has it’s artificial limit length of 44″. There are expensive RIPs (raster image processors) that will allow you to printer longer images, but unless you are going to do this a lot, it can’t be worth it. The cheapest I found is $500.

I’ve decided that I probably will not use the “roll” on the printer. I want to printer banners every so often, but to use the roll for one print wastes about 10″ of paper. That is the initial feed of about 4″ and when you cut it on the back to free it, another 6″. If you are printing many prints on a roll, then it will be worth it and easier. I suggest (and what I did in my second test), was just cut a 44″ of paper (from the roll) and feed it though the (normal) auto paper feeder and that worked fine for the banner without any waste.

As for ink usage, I’ve hardly made a dent with the 10 8×10s, 1 12×12, 3 8.5 x 44 prints I’ve made. The banners were not printed at high resolution to save ink for my testing. I love Amazon, but it’s ink prices for this printer are currently way out of line. Even the Epson store has them for way less. I hope that changes soon.

Update 3-26-08 (my last update).

After printing 25 more 8×10 high resolution (and in slow mode for better quality), I finally ran out of ink in one cartridge (and it was the gloss optimizer). After more reading, I think I used the wrong setting for the gloss and was wasting it on white area outside of the image. I’m still learning.

Some of the other inks are pretty low, so I have stocked up.

I still have not printed on a DVD/CD yet, but I’m sure that will be fine.

There is not much more for me to say except I am very happy with this purchase and expect to use this printer for the next 3-4 years, when I’m sure something else out there will get my attention.

Howard

I’d think seriously before buying this printer. I purchased this printer about 6 weeks ago after NAPP members were offered a discount. I purchased it directly from the Epson Store. I watched the video tutorials on how to get the best results using the R1900 and printing out of Lightroom that were provided on www.photoshopuser.com. I was DELIGHTED at the output and the quality. Never had my printer output so closely matched that of my calibrated monitor, and the 13×19 inch glossies were stunning. I was THRILLED…

UNTIL…about 5 weeks after purchasing the printer I had to replace the Gloss Optimizer cartridge. This runs out fairly quickly as it is applied to the entire photo regardless of colors. Fine, I had extra genuine Epson cartridges I had purchased from a national retailer. Even though it was the correct cartridge the printer would not recognize it, then remembering that Epson had sent an extra Gloss cartridge, I dug it out thinking I had indeed bought the wrong one. I replaced it with the one Epson sent and all was good. I confirmed I had the RIGHT cartridge, and chalked it up to a defective cartridge. No biggy, it happens…THEN the Cyan ran out. I replaced it with a cartridge that I bought directly from the Epson store and had the same issue. The printer says it’s an incompatible cartridge. IT is NOT. I called Epson support on Friday and they said they would send me a new cartridge and that it would be 3-5 days. Fine, but in the meantime I had prints that needed to be printed, so I again went to a retailer and bought a cyan cartridge. Not recognized. I googled the issue and found that other users had had the same issue, and that Epson had replaced their printers with brand new ones. I called Epson again. They said that they would only replace with a refurb since I was past the 30 day mark since I purchased, AND according to the Epson Warranty, I’LL be on the hook for shipping the defective printer to them. Problem is, I’m sure this printer was defective from day one, but since I didn’t print a WHOLE lot right away, the cartridges didn’t need replacing until after the 30 day return was up,and consequently I didn’t find the defect until then. I’m extremely upset. I now have a bunch of defective cartridges and/or printer, no way to print the work I need to get out, and the best I can hope for is to get a REFURBISHED printer to replace the BRAND NEW printer I paid for. Do yourself a favor, look at the Canon and HP equivalent printers. If you search for issues on Epson cartridges, you’ll find TONS. Not necessarily with the R1900, but with almost all Epson printers. This is the first, and LAST Epson I will buy.

I have had this printer for a week now and all I can say is WOW! I was concerned after I read the reviews here but decided to buy anyway because of past experience with Epson, and I am so happy I did.

When the box arrived I picked up the ‘Start Here’ booklet and within an hour and three prints (13″x19″) I was getting better results than the stuff I had paid a professional lab $15.00 each for! No more, I just fired my lab.

I am printing from Photoshop CS3 using Adobe RGB color space and ICC information. The prints are incredibly color saturated with great contrast to really ‘pop’.

I am absolutely in love with this printer!

Another week:

No change in my opinion, other than I like it even more. I printed 20 8×10 and 7 13×19 before having to add ink (Yellow and Cyan). Prints on Epson’s fine art paper are fantastic! This is my last review.

I purchased the ET2002 in early October because the machine fit my needs and came with a free Windows 7 upgrade. After receiving the machine, I attempted to register for my Windows 7 upgrade on the Asus Website. During the registration, the serial number for my ET2002 could not be verified by Asus. So, I filled out a supplemental for the verify the serial number. After a week, no response from Asus. I then called their Windows 7 support number….no answer. I finally spoke to an Asus support person, and they said someone would call me back later that day…nope, didn’t happen. When I finally spoke to an Asus “Eee-family” support person, they said I would get resolution within 24-48 hours…nope, wrong again.

It has been 3 weeks since purchasing the ET2002 and Asus still has not verified my PC’s serial number. I have just received an RMA from Amazon.com and the PC is being returned for a full refund. Sorry, Asus…you’re not ready.

Update 10/29: Thank you Amazon for the QUICK RMA on this purchase!

I was pleasantly surprised by this unit. The monitor/computer unit is well put together and feels very solid. The wireless keyboard and mouse worked out of the box and makes the unit very easy to move around.

While I was initially concerned about how well the ATOM process would handle HD movies, it actually did a pretty good job. Lag was minimal, and even watching things like youtube and hulu wasn’t too bad. The integrated speakers sounded good and provided a nice surround sound effect.

This is a great unit for people who want the simplicity of an all-in-one but not the high price tag normally associated with it. The monitor’s big enough, the sound’s integrated, the desktop foot print is small and both the keyboard and mouse is wireless. The only wire you really need to worry about is the power cord. I can totally see buying one of these for non-tech savvy folks like my parents.

Although notebooks are more portable, and desktops are more powerful, this unit is a great compromise.

I have the 15.9″ model of the Eee Top and it performs in every dimension you would want in this price range. Very nice packaging, good screen, good speakers, very nice appearance, etc. Cute keyboard which is typeable. All of this size Eee Tops are touchscreen.

Imagine my surprise when I ordered a 20″ version and it has no touchscreen! Be VERY careful that you get the touch or non-touch version you want. The keyboard still comes with a stylus in the stylus holder! This model has wireless keyboard and mouse that work well. I needed touchscreen.

Also, the stand on the back is basically not removeable (no VESA mounting). But if you are standing it on a desk/table, it is fine.

I purchased this polisher to finish concrete countertops I poured for my kitchen. I had never used a wet grinder, and the Makita was surprisingly easy to handle. The hose adapter doesn’t come with the polisher, but a tool store in town supplied me with that no problem ($2.00 if I remember correctly).

I’ve used the Flex polisher since I completed my countertop, and I must say that I prefer the Makita. The speed and water supply controls are on the body of the grinder, making it easy to change water pressure and speed as you polish - very important for getting concrete polished right. I’ve also used this polisher to finish stainless steel and aluminum to a mirror and/or scratch finish. Since these grinders work in a RPM range below the 11-13k of a standard angle grinder, they work great for certain metal polishing pads that require lower RPMs.

There are several features that I liked on this. The variable speed dial is great. Being able to set it for specific RPMs is mandatory. It’s quality is great and so far has held up to my abuse. It has a flexible rubber splash guard on the back that keeps you from getting too wet. Also the water valve is variable which is useful for the lower speed RPM work. It has GFCI built into the power cord which is a must when working with electricity and water. The only downside was having to buy the special adapter for the water hose. I had read where others had made a make-shift solution but I found that the one designed for it is worth the money. It can be bought for about $8 and it has a quick release feature which is key during cleanup. Having nothing to compare this to, as I have only owned this one wet grinder, I like it alot. I have compared it to several others and found that it was the best value out there.

I bought this grinder and used it to grind and polish a concrete countertop. The grinder works really well. I had no experience at all in grinding and polishing, but this grinder made it easy. The countertop turned out better than I could have hoped.

I used six diamond pads with the grinder (50 grit up to 1500 grit). The grinder comes with a flexible backer pad which works well for grinding and smoothing the concrete (50 grit to 400 grit). But I found a ridid pad (which you have to buy separately) worked better for polishing (800 and 1500 grit).

Based on other reviews, I was a bit worried about the water connection. I did have to spend some time figuring out what kind of connection was needed, but it turned out to be fairly simple. A “quick connect” hose end connector is all that is needed. You can find them in the lawn and garden section of almost any hardware store (I bought one at Home Depot), and it only costs $2 to $5. (Now, why Makita just doesn’t include one of these I do not know!) This will connect the grinder to a standard garden hose. You can also get one of these off of Amazon. I put a product link to the connector needed. Quick Connect Hose Outlet End Connector (36918-12)

Other than that, my only complaint about the grinder is that the power on/off switch is a bit tough to use at times. A better trigger mechanism would be nice.

I used this to take off and replace all 4 struts/shocks on my car today. My last problem when replacing brakes was that there were SO MANY rusty, corroded and just plain stuck nuts and bolts that the job took FOREVER.

This tool unscrews nasty, stuck-on nuts and bolts like they were held in by wax. There was only one bolt that this tool couldn’t get out. I hate that freaking bolt.

I investigated a TON of impact drivers and wrenches before buying this one. The Lowe’s tool expert told me that Bosch was the best brand they sell, and this one gets as low as $170 from amazon.com (not marketplace). This one also has the highest torque of the cordless impact wrenches I looked at, and if you ever want to use it as an impact driver there is a $10 adapter.

One complaint: I went through 2.5 batteries today during a long, hard 10 hour job on the car. Didn’t matter though cuz the charger takes 30 minutes.

This thin feels sturdy in your hand, you know it’s quality. Nicely balance and small enough to get into hard to reach places. Plus the warranty is AMAZING: 3 years!!! Would definitely recommend and buy again. Can’t wait to use it again.

This impact wrench is amazing. Typically great quality….I have several other Bosch power tools and they are all great as well. This wrench is lightweight, powerful and compact. Great for auto, atv, snowmobile, etc..

The only thing you have to look out for is the plastic case that it comes in. The latches are reversed compared to other cases that I have. It’s easy to open it upside down and everything falls out: solution - just mark the box “TOP” and “BOTTOM”……sounds stupid, but it works for me :) I still give it 5 stars…it’s the tool that I’m rating.

As a mechanic, it is sometimes not practical to use air tools when doing interior work because of the air hose. I love this little impact for dash work (I use an adapter) because it’s so small and quick at removing bolts, nuts, and screws without dragging an air hose into a customer’s nice vehicle. Also, this Bosch item was $60 cheaper than Dewalt brand and $100.00 cheaper than Snap-On’s 3/8″ 14.4 volt Impact! BTW, the Bosch warranty is 2 years on the batteries and 3 years on the gun. Snap-On and Dewalt were only 1 year then you have to pay more $$$. I recommend this highly for it’s light weight, power, and compact size.

Regarding an earlier post, I had difficulty upgrading the firmware in Vista 64, UNTIL i booted into Safe mode w/console. Then it flashed just fine. I saw significant performance improvements after upgrading the firmware. SMART was enabled and it solved a serious problem with BSODs after resuming from sleep. OCZ would be wise to start shipping these with the latest firmware! I wasted many hours trying to diagnose the sleep problem and then jumping through numerous hoops trying to upgrade the firmware - yes you will need a spare jumper to flash the drive.

All in all, this is a superior SSD with a 64MB cache and a smart controller to manage wear leveling. My laptop has new life after suffering from Chronic Windows Vista Bloat Syndrome. It’s quite snappy now.

It lives up to its super-fast promises, however, if you have a Mac, note that they don’t have a 100% working way to update the drivers.

To the company’s credit, they did try and try and try different solutions, however, all of their Mac update solutions involve booting to a DOS disk, then updating the firmware from there. Nothing we tried over the course of several days worked. It was a tremendous time-suck.

Given that it takes eons to get the thing in and out of your MacBook, the idea of pulling it and installing it in a PC just to update the drivers isn’t an especially inviting one either.

Wait until they have an actual Mac updater before buying this product for a Mac.

I just dropped the 250gb OCZ Vertex drive into my Mid-2009 13 inch Macbook Pro and couldn’t be happier with its performance. I’ve been building and modding my computers for 15 years now and this was the single, greatest upgrade I have ever done to any of my computers. The speed difference is tremendous. Everything is faster… loading, unloading, program opening…etc. Sure, RAM will speed up your computer, but not like this drive will. Yea, the price is ridiculous… I agree, but after seeing the difference of speed, I would liken it to buying a brand new state of the art computer to replace an old dog of a rig purchased 3 years ago.

After owning a Garmin Nuvi 660 for around 2 years, I got tired of not having updated maps (even after purchasing Garmin updates) where alot of the areas already developed over a year ago STILL weren’t there — especially the DFW area. While traffic was nice, I didnt think I should have to pay extra when the unit originally cost over $400. Enter the Navigon 7200T. This GPS fixes most of the previous version’s issues (auto night/day, more accurate directions, etc) plus it has built in Zagats and great Voice recognition SW. The Zagats is ultra cool for folks like me that do alot of business travel and know restaurants only by name. One of my colleagues will say “Lets meet at Noodle Wave” and all I have to do is type the name in my Navi and Bam! I have the address, location, phone number and directions in my car. Truly awesome. Also, I like the ability to plan out my route beforehand so i can verify the directions with google or mapquest. I dont miss not having videos, mp3s on my GPS since thats what my ipod is for. So for me, the keys for a Navi are accurate and updated maps, free traffic and the ability to search places by name (not just address), the 7200T is really it.

Benefits:

Small form factor in a 4.3″ screen. Bright and Reality View is a +

Free lifetime Traffic

Updated maps (more accurate than Garmin’s) with 12 updates for 3 years.

Built in Zagats and restaurants, POIs, Gas stations with the ability to search by business name.

US and Canada maps.

Low price (compared to similar GPS’ with same features), $50 rebate and lower overall lifecycle cost.

Improvements:

Font a bit small and may be difficult to read for some folks.

Voice not as clear as Garmin, bit more static.

Conclusion — WAYYYY better than my Garmin Nuvi 660 and has the features I care about. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the 7200. Its amazing.

I have owned Garmins and Tomtoms. This gps looked very promising. It displays all the info Tomtom displays but Garmin doesn’t plus it has a nice bright screen like Garmin, not TT. I was hoping for the best of both.

The good is that the 7200T routes well, no problems there. The lane assist works well although Garmin and Tomtom’s implementation is a little better I think. Whereas Navigon displays the static reality few for a long time. Garmin and TT pop it up for a few seconds then go back to showing the lane assist diagram.

The Navigon is very wordy with its verbal instructions which is good. But with all the words, it doesn’t speak 90% of the highway exit numbers. It rattles off the town and road, etc, etc but no exit number. What it does do though is display the exit number on the screen. This is ok if you have the eagle eyes. The fonts on the 7200T are tiny. It takes my old eyes 5 - 10 seconds to focus on the screen’s small print after driving. It doesn’t sound like alot but taking your eyes off the road for that long is dangerous. Don’t know why they don’t include exit number in the instructions.

The 7200T also displays street names. Unfortunately, every road that is not part of your route is displayed as a pencil line and each road is displayed with its street name in micro font size. Forget about being able to read them.

Another short coming is the 7200T’s POI database. It is very small and is missing most national retailers, gyms, health clubs, doctors, dentists and who knows what else. Its POI search is also horribly broken. You have 3 choices. NEARBY - gives you POIs within a very small radius, too small. The next choice is CITY. Unfortunately, you have to know the exact city. Most other brands search NEAR CITY but not this. If the POI you are looking for is actually one town over, you will never find it. If you are in unfamiliar territory and don’t know the adjoining citys to search individually, you are out of luck. The third choice is STATE. Most POI categories are not included in STATE so this choice is totally worthless.

On top of this all, the screen sensitivity is not great and the buttons are small. You will have to enter and address multiple times as you tapped the wrong letter or have to tap the same letter multiple times because it didn’t pick it up.

So to summarize, it routes well but the screen fonts are so little its dangerous to look at while driving and the whole POI thing is terrible. Maybe a firmware fix will improve font size and change exit number verbal instructions. Maybe new maps will increase POI database size and add good search functionality. Until then, this is just another gps with lots of potential.

Got this GPS a few days ago. First impressions overall positive. I am upgrading from a TomTom PDA, so comparisons in my mind are inevitable.

The good:

o - nice packaging, minimalist, not a huge box filled with junk. Good job.

o - GPS InstantFix works like a charm. Satellite fix was established very quickly, a matter of seconds rather than minutes. No complaints there.

o - Response times to screen input are quick. Previous versions generated complaints of slow response; that’s clearly been fixed. The only delays I noticed were when I updated settings.

o - Nice design, compact, frameless screen. Matte finish on screen and on the case, hides fingerprints well, unlike the previous version which was a fingerprint magnet.

o - Screen is large, bright, and has nice sensitivity to touch, both fingertips and fingernails.

o - Reality View of exists is certainly appreciated.

o - Free Traffic was a major selling feature. Keep in mind here, the traffic radio receiver is built in, but you still need an external antenna. The supplied Mini USB car charger cord doubles as an antenna, but I also found out that any old USB cable with a mini USB plug will work. Would have been nice to have an antenna built into the unit, but I don’t know if that’s possible.

o - Charges via a standard mini USB connector - a huge plus - can plug into a PC or a USB hub, or any mini USB cell phone charger. Very nice.

o - When you plug it into a PC, it becomes a Mass Storage Device, assigned a drive letter, you can just copy files to it if you want. No need for custom software

o - Text-to-speech is very good, accurate and easy to understand.

o - Speed limit display and alerts are good.

o - Speaker sound is plenty loud enough, easy to control from main screen.

o - Bluetooth speakerphone feature was easy to pair with my cell phone, and works flawlessly. It allows me to dial either from the phone and speak through the GPS unit or dial directly from the GPS when I look up Zagat reviews or any listed POI.

o - Automatic night/day display brightness switching worked great. It switched to night mode just as it started getting dark. I assume it calculates the sundown times based on exactly where you are.

Now the bad:

o - Box came with no user manual, just a URL of where to find it online. The website says there would be a CD in the box; there isn’t. Either poor QC on packaging, or a poor design choice. Even the cheapo gadgets come with a tiny CD with a PDF manual.

o - first time I turned it on, I got an error message, then the thing crashed and needed a reboot.

o - Fist night it instructed me to go the wrong way up a one way street, even though the map showed it as a one way street. What’s up with that?

o - The current position displayed (GPS coordinates) is useless most of the time, takes up a sizable chunk of screen, and there is no way to get the hell rid of it.

o - The altitude calculation is incorrect. Even with as many as seven satellite signals, it tells me I’m below the sea level. I’m not.

o - there’s no way to switch orientation from horizontal to vertical. Sad. I might like to know more of what’s ahead of me than what’s on the sides.

o - Simulation of route goes at one speed only, no way to speed up or slow down. The TomTom allows you to play simulations at any speed from 10% to 5x speed, other ways too.

o - Map display is mediocre. Not anywhere as nice as Google maps on my phone. You guys could have done much better.

o - screen is really cluttered. No way to get rid of right side bar and bottom bar, which together take up almost half the scree space.

o - information display is limited; Either ETA or time to destination, not both; no current time.

o - browse route only shows text and 2d symbols of turns; not 3d map images, no map.

o - no ability to play either music or video. This is a Windows CE device; it has a micro SD card and a speaker and an audio out. All you would need is a program to play music; yet it is not supplied. At this price, I would expect that little bit of functionality. On long trips, it might be nice to be able to play podcasts or recorded books. Fortunately, there is likely to be a way to hack the device to do that. [...]. It refers to a Mio device, but the same principles apply here. I haven’t done it, but it should be possible.

o - the MicroSD card is impossible to remove without using a tiny screwdriver.

I have had this unit for several months but did not really put it to maximum use until this past week. For a two thousand mile, eight city trip, it worked flawlessly. I did learn I need to put in my preferences. After that I was one happy traveler. Pulling into a north Chicago suburb late at night without a room reservation, I tried the points of interest feature for the first time. I selected a motel, it took me straight there without having drive forever looking or reading a map at night. This unit more than paid for itself on this one trip. Another feature I liked was pulling off the road and driving into a town I was not familiar with. After looking around for a while, I switched the unit back on, it replotted my route and got me out of town and on my way in no time. I am buying a unit for my wife and one for my daughter. These are no longer toys but a have to have for safety and convenience.
Perfect, the screen is wide enough for me to read ( I like to read and listen) not small like one of the Garmin GPS, I received it a few days ago, set up was easy as 1-2-3 no comp. downloads, it was ready to go. I hooked it up and arrived at my location perfectly. I did not use the remote because I was driving alone, but I am sure it is a useful addition. GO WHISTLER
The unit is overall OK, but it takes a very long time every time you turn it on to pick up a signal and you can miss important turns. I suggest another brand!

This bench for the money is awesome. You can’t beat it. I bought this bench for a picture wall in my living room. It is very pretty and i have gotten a lot of nice comments on it. I really like it. And for the price you can have a nice looking piece of furniture without going broke. There is some brown on the cushion like a marbleing effect. But basically all black. Very nice.
After looking for months for a leather bench, I stumbled upon this one at Amazon. I’ve been looking for a dark wood, leather bench that fit my Spanish Colonial decor. This one fits in perfectly with all my other furnishings. The bench came in one, flat box and was very nicely packed. Very easy to assemble. Wood looks hand carved (probably machine tooled, however) and the leather (although not genuine leather) has a smooth, marbled coppery finish that looks worn without actually being so. I forsee stitching issues in the near future if the bench will actually be used to sit on a great deal. So be warned. If the bench is to be used mostly as a decorative piece with little wear, this should not be an issue. Overall, a very nice purchase for under $150.
After reading the last review, I ordered this bench & had no fear. I am sure glad that I did! It looks great at the foot of my king size bed. Much longer than ones at other stores for a similar price. I wanted something that didn’t look like a piano bench….I wanted a bench that looked classy and that would enhance the modern look of my contemporary bedroom. Don’t let the “retro” word in the title throw you off, this is a versatile looking bench that would compliment all decor. The bi-cast leather looks rich and regal with a black and almost copper like marbled leather, studded leather wrapped legs and a button tufted top. It goes very well with my espresso colored dresser and nightstands. It is sturdy, and durable. The hugely discounted price for under 150 incl. shipping made this bench an affordable piece of furniture. It arrived only a week and a half (greatly protected) after ordering, despite what the shipping details originally stated! Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my gorgeous bed bench and I highly recommend it to all!
